The 2023 Children's General Assembly in Billund, Denmark : Uniting Global Youth to Shape a Better Future

27 September, 2023

The Children's General Assembly convened from September 19th to 21st, 2023, uniting 80 children representing 50 diverse nationalities in the enchanting town of Billund, Denmark. This summit, known as the Children’s General Assembly Summit, harnessed cutting-edge technology to amplify their collective voice, embodied in a remarkable digital avatar named Uni—a fusion of 80 youthful faces and voices.

Far exceeding the boundaries of a conventional event, this international assembly served as a dynamic platform where children from around the world gathered to deliberate critical global issues and proffer ingenious remedies.

At its essence, the Children's General Assembly championed the notion that children offer a unique perspective on our world's challenges. This assembly afforded them the opportunity to articulate their shared perspectives on these global dilemmas and offer pragmatic solutions. It bestowed upon children the power to actively participate in shaping their own destiny through open dialogues and collaborative efforts.

Furthermore, the Children's General Assembly acknowledged the value of playful learning. Participants were encouraged to explore their creativity and cultivate essential global citizenship skills through interactive and captivating activities, making the learning process enjoyable and nurturing a profound sense of responsibility for our shared planet.

The Children's General Assembly was thoughtfully designed to be accessible to children from all walks of life, consisting of two primary phases. The initial phase, an Online Process conducted from April to June, facilitated collaboration and idea exchange among children, regardless of their geographical locations. The second phase, the Physical/Online Assembly, brought participants together both physically and virtually to collectively shape the future and present their vision to the world.

The decisions made by today's global leaders have far-reaching consequences for the world our children will inherit. To navigate the complexities of the modern world, children must acquire vital skills such as collaboration, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving. This commitment to children's co-determination harmonizes with the fundamental principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The Children's General Assembly furnished a distinctive opportunity for children to nurture these skills, become creative global citizens, and captivate the attention of leaders on the world stage.

In an era defined by climate change, economic challenges, and the enduring impact of COVID-19, the 2023 Children's General Assembly in Billund aspired to equip young people with the skills and knowledge essential for a brighter tomorrow. By fostering partnerships and engaging various stakeholders, this event aimed to prepare children and youth for careers and technologies capable of addressing the world's most pressing issues.
